Choose the Perfect Coffee Table for Your Space

Before you can decorate your coffee table, you first need to choose the right coffee table for your space. I’ve rounded up my favorite options from high-end designer to budget-friendly options below. To choose the best table for your space, determine how much space you’re working with. Do you have a small space or a large space to fill?

You also want to purchase a coffee table that will fit your home’s style. Do you have a midcentury modern, traditional, farmhouse? Whatever design style you enjoy, I guarantee there’s a perfect coffee table for you and within your price point.

Start with Your Focal Point Piece

Once you have your coffee table, you’re ready to start styling. I did a reel showing exactly how I style my coffee table HERE. Now whether you have a circular, rectangular or square coffee table, you want to style your decor in a triangle.

Start with your focal point piece. I typically like my focal point piece to be a faux (or real) plant in a vase. This will be at the top of your triangle. You can arrange seasonal faux stems in a vase and change the florals each season. The focal point piece should be the tallest decor item of the coffee table.

Add Your Tray to Corral Items

Next, you want to add a tray to help corral items. Within your tray, you can add decorative books, coasters, a small box or candles. Whatever speaks to your lifestyle. This is the first leg to the bottom of your triangle.

The second leg of your triangle should be something a bit higher than your tray arrangement, yet a tad shorter than your focal piece. You want them to be differing heights to give the area dimension. This can be a beautiful sculpture, a stack of boxes or coffee table books. I like adding a decorative item to my stack of coffee table books to give it more height.

Boxes are great to add into your decor styling because you can hide things in them. So they’re not only beautiful, but functional. Another substantial piece you can add to your coffee table is a large bowl and add seasonal fillers. I love adding beads to a bowl when there isn’t an in-season filler to include.

Anchor the Bottom of Your Coffee Table

If your coffee table has a bottom shelf, you want to add in a few decor pieces to this area as well. However, you want this space to have one less grouping than the top of your coffee table. So for example, you’re probably going to have three groupings of home decor items on the top because you’re making a triangle. Therefore, you only want one or two groupings on the bottom of your table. This could be a large basket, a stack of boxes, books or other decor items that you love. You just want these pieces to act as the anchor to your table, so they need to be large and substantial.

Besides the kitchen, the living room is another popular gathering place for the home. So it should reflect your family’s lifestyle, and a cozy place to gather to watch movies, talk and enjoy time together.
